Questions:
1. Why are you interested in serving on the Port Angeles Utility Advisory Committee?
I believe that with the knowledge obtained through my work experiences that I can contribute to
the long term viability ofall the utility services including maintaining the balance of meeting
the demands ofregulations, growth. upgrading current services with new technologies and best
practices for operations while managing rates for continued affordability.
2. What is your background or experience do you think would help you in serving on the
Committee?
As a former employee of the City of Port Angeles, I have familiarity with all of the utility
services offered with a particular knowledge of current electric utility issues. My background as
the Commercial Energy Analyst has provided me with knowledge of the operations and
conditions of most of the City's major facilities, many local commercial facilities, and the
utility's large industrial facility.
3. What is your understanding of the responsibilities of the Committee?
The UAC's main responsibilities are to review and advise on items and utility issues presented
by staff and legislation affecting utilities. The UAC also makes recommendation to city council
regarding those items.
4. Please feel free to add any additional comments you wish to make regarding your
application.
Just a note on volunteer experiences. Following advice of friends that have successfully
navigated retirement so far, I have waited a year before deciding what voids in my time I have
and how I will fill them.
5. What useful experience, knowledge, or perspective do you bring?
My work history has provided me with a strong experience in working in team environments
and a variety of energy conservation and energy management options. I've had the opportunity
to work on multiple pilot programs including the lust monetized industrial demand response
project at the former Nippon Paper Industries pulp and paper mill. I've also had the opportunity
to work with many local customers with the installation of renewable energy systems and with
obtaining incentives to help defray the cost ofthose systems. The above experiences have
afforded me the unique perspective of operating on both sides of the meter. I have developed
strong customer service skills during my employment at the city including inter agency work at
the local, state and regional levels.
