1. Why are you interested in serving on the Port Angeles Utility Advisory Committee?
Represent interests of community members as we move toward resilient and sustainable goals. Engage in community service.
2. What is your background or experience do you think would help you in serving on the Committee?
25 years of business experience in landline and wireless telecommunications, and 5 years consulting in the transportation and
energy area focused on legislative policy, low carbon footprint solutions and sustainable transportation. Telecommunications
is very similar to power utility industry. Both are regulated, evolving technology, with both centralized and distributed
components.
Throughout my career as a product/project manager I’ve been focused on customer needs and value creation. I’ve worked
cross-functionally with technical, operational, and leadership. I bring a range of skills in a range of roles including financial,
operations, strategic, and tactical service management.
3. What is your understanding of the responsibilities of the Committee?
Investigate issues related to utility policy and operations, and provide advisory recommendations. Follow the rules and
protocol for committee meetings and process. Participate in meetings as reqd, commit time to research and comprehend
details of issues and present findings to City Council in a professional, clear, concise, and actionable manner.
4. Please fee free to add any additional comments you wish to make regarding your application.
We moved to Port Angeles in 2020 to live and enjoy the last phase of our lives and careers in this beautiful and unique area.
We are committed to the community and believe in the future of Port Angeles and have invested in our home as well as a
rental property. My wife of 12 years works from home as a staff member in a legal firm. I now work as a school district
employee in Port Angeles pupil transportation as a bus driver for special education students, continuing in a second career
started in Mukilteo in 2018.
5. What useful experience, knowledge, or perspective do you bring?
Throughout my career as a product/project manager I’ve been focused on customer needs and value creation. I’ve worked
cross-functionally with technical, operational, and leadership. I bring a range of skills in a range of roles including financial,
operations, strategic, and tactical service management. As an associate with the Center of Advanced Transportation and
Energy Solutions consultancy I’ve spent considerable time working on the relationships between transportation
electrification, energy grid power sources, distributed energy (residential and commercial solar, community solar), energy
storage, and legislative policies. I worked on the Carbon Washington team on the 2016 I-732 state initiative that proposed to
be a fee on co2 emissions and cut the sales tax resulting in a revenue neutral impact on constituents.
