Building Permit Application 12 -507 for Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rummel may be approved as
a minor repair of a nonconforming portion of a residential structure per Section 17.95.030(C)
PAMC. A minor deviation of the required side yard setback in the RS -7 Residential Single
Family Residential zone can be approved from 7 feet to 6 feet, due to the meander of the
structure from north to southwest on the site The west side yard setback meanders from
approximately 6 feet at the northwest point of the structure to 5 feet at the southwest portion
of the structure where the attached carport is located; therefore, since a minor deviation can
only be approved for an adjustment of 10% of a development standard, a minor deviation
will not fully allow the proposed repair /improvement as it will only result in a setback of 6
feet rather than the existing 5 feet.
It is determined that removal of the fiberglass siding to enclose the carport with solid
siding and to allow replacement of the fiberglass roofing with a more durable composition
roof material can be permitted per Section 17.95.030(C) PAMC (Minor Repair) because the
improvement will not (1) constitute enlargement of the structure; (2) does not result in an
increase in the degree of nonconformity; (3) does not change the use of that portion of the
structure; and (3) does not result in an expansion of the footprint or add additional site
coverage.
Adjacent property owners within 300 feet of the project location were notified by U.S.
Mail and the site was posted on April 30, 2012. One comment was received in support of the
proposed repair.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on April 26, 2012, the City of Port Angeles is in receipt of a
request to allow a MINOR DEVIATION from development standards to permit a REDUCTION OF
REQUIRED SETBACKS in the RS -7 Residential Single Family Zone. The proposal is to allow the
enclosure of a carport area such that it is a permanent part of the single family residential structure within
5 feet instead of 7 feet of a side property line. There would be no noticeable expansion of the residential
footprint but the carport will be enclosed. Written comments regarding the proposed action must be
received by the City no later than May 15, 2012. An administrative decision will be made on this matter
after May 15, 2012. Interested parties are encouraged to comment on the proposal and may request a
copy of the decision once it's been made. Information may be reviewed at the City Department of
