Response to Correction Letter dated Sept. 3, 2010
Dear Jim,
The following items are in response to your comments in the above referenced letter
Shear walls have been labeled on the plans as well as the schedule.
Hold downs have been shown on the Foundation Plan
The stem wall on Line `A' has been dimensioned
The 2' square concrete pad has been replaced with a continuous footing.
The shear forces at Wall Line `A' are being transferred through the drag strut truss
not the 4x10 beam. The 4x10 beam is being used to support the existing house
roof structure.
The lateral calculation for Wall Line `B' is higher because of the extended roof
overhang over the rear door
The LSTH8 hold downs have been corrected to be Simpson LSTHD8 hold downs.

The shear walls need to be labeled on the plans and the schedule for the shear walls shall also be shown
on the plans to correspond to the structural calculations
For clarity the holdowns should be shown on the foundation plan so that holdown anchor bolts or holdown
straps do not get missed during construction of the foundation
There is a stem wall called out at Wall Line A under the shear wall however the required length of this wall
is not called out on the plans It should be noted that this stem wall needs to extend a minimum distance
past the holdown anchor bolt equal to the depth of embedment of the holdown anchor bolt or calculations
shall be provided to justify holdown anchor bolt embedment depth The length of this wall should be
clarified on the plans and it should be clarified whether the footing is to extend across the width of the house
at that location Also is the 2' square pier pad to be incorporated into the new footing as it appears on the
foundation plan?
Please clarify how the 4x10 beam called out over the stem wall at Line A at the shear wall location is
connected to the stem wall to provide proper load transfer from the shear wall on the main floor to the stem
wall
Please clarify how the shear value V on the lateral calculation page is higher at Wall Line B verses Line A.
There is more tributary area adding load to Wall Line A than B and thus the number shown does not appear
correct.
Footing Detail 1 does not indicate any anchor bolt spacing Please clarify spacing and the connection of the
existing wall of the house to this new foundation to provide lateral load transfer into the new foundation
system
Please clarify the LSTH8 holdowns called out on the plans and in the calculations there appears to be no
such holdown in the Simpson Strong -Tie Book. Are these supposed to be Simpson LSTHD8 holdowns?
