1) Providing and installing the transformer

The owner /contractor will be responsible for the following
1) Providing, installing and future maintenance of the service riser on the pole (Ref
Underground Service- Secondary Riser CR 5 01)
2) Providing installing and future maintenance of the underground service wires in
conduit from the power pole to the house and /or meter base.

Background
Section 502.1.6 of the Waging= State Energy Code requires that 'vapor retarders shall be Instilled oa

perm rating of at least I.O. Thal are a number of building materials which will do ta Ws. Including plastic
sb cdng. upbahetd braft and foil coated insuladon backing. some types of roam insoladea. rail- backed
wallboard, tad awior -grade structural sheathings. Low -perm painu are another way to parade this vapor
murder.
Vapor Diffusion vs Air Leakage
Researchers have consistently found that Lir leakage accounts for a nx st all of the taadsture found in wall
cavities lEgh kveha of moiwas in walls are nearly always associated with sormeombinadoo of woes
leaks and air leakage through openings in the walls. Based on this experience and'otber detailed research"
vapor diffusion is believed to su ount for only 1 percent of the moisture moving iota building cavidea from
the building. Air leakage is respotuible for the remain' ing 99 percent.
Does a Vapor Retarder Have to Se Continuous
No material can set 13 a absolute 'barrier' to diffusion. Given enough time, va molecules will
eventually migrate through any barrier Vapor retarders slow down the premss enough to pteveat u from
being a problem.
A vapor retarder does not have to be continuous to be eQocdre. Yaps migration ttttnuth a etnaLL
pair -able arra will not affect vapor awvement through the rest of the surfae- This L because diffusion is
a slow recess which is driven mostly by differett.es in concentration.
Unlike repot manias, air leakage barriers. are much less effective if they aren't cmonuouu. This a
beaux air Icakage can carry retanvely large amounts of moisture into building cavities. Even mull leaks
CIA carry much more moisture than diffusion.
Low -Perm Paints vs. Films and Sheets
A low permeability paint used as a vapor retarder can save clinic a bit of coaslruction labor. If the right
product is properly applied to a tight wall or ceiling. low per paints can be u good as any polyethylene.

correct product type and application rate for vapor retander paints. Keep in mind that other products may
be accepubte,depending on their tested permeability and application rag.
