1. Appoint Committee Members for the Fire and Police 2023 plan that would work
in conjunction with Fire and Police on Advocacy
2. The Public Safety Advisory Board will review the Board’s 2021-2022 workplan as
well as review and consider the list of priorities and goals provided by Brian
Smith, Police Chief and Derrell Sharp, Fire Chief. The Board may then make
changes to the Board’s 2022-2023 workplan.
V. ADJOURNMENT
Prioritized Topics as chosen by the Public Safety Advisory Board:
• Cleanliness and Safety (downtown, Safeway, trails, parks, public restrooms, cleaning
overbrush) –Joe DeScala gave a presentation on 4PA
• Missing and Murdered Indigenous people in Clallam County – We had guest
speakers give a presentation: Vicki Lowe – Executive Director, American Indian
Health Commission for Washington State; Washington State Women’s Commission;
Peninsula Behavioral Health Board of Directors; Washington State Universal Health
Care Commission; Sequim City Council, elected official and Glen Melville -Regional
Director of the Eastern Region, Bureau of Indian Affairs
• Code Enforcement, Animal Control
• Traffic Safety (speeding, traffic island at McDonald’s)
• Human Trafficking
• More visible police presence
• Substance Abuse/ addiction, drug activity
• To understand the circumstances, which make people homeless or decide to be
houseless
Priorities & Goals Presented by Brian Smith, Police Chief and Derrell Sharp, Fire Chief:
• Support/Advocacy for consideration of a Joint PAFD/PAPD Training Facility
• Support/Advocacy with Peninsula College for a Paramedic Training program and
additions to their Criminal Justice Training Curriculum
• Support/Advocacy for Active Shooter Hostile Event Response Training & Equipment
Acquisition
• Support/Advocacy for the development of Alternative Response Teams
• Support/Advocacy for Community Paramedic Program Funding Opportunities
• Support/Advocacy for Downtown Resource Officer Funding Opportunities
