RE: Zac Garripoli Residence
Dear Jim:
As requested we have visited the Zac Garripoli residence to view the foundation
stem walls. The concrete footing had been poured prior to our visit and
therefore could not be inspected.
We viewed the steel placement in the wall forms. The six inch walls have
vertical bars at 4'-0" on center and eight inch walls have verticals at 16" on ~
center. The vertical bars at the north end of the Kitchen and Dining Room were
in place and covered and the lap could not be verified. We need to have the
concrete contractor drill and expoy new number four rebars 16" on center a
minimum of twelve inches into the existing footing. This footing also needs to be -~
backfilled on both sides so the finish grade is a minimum of 12 above the top of
the footing.

The intended top of the concrete walls are not the top of the form boards. The
concrete contractor has informed us he is planning to level the top of the walls r
down below the form boards by making a level line on the inside of the forms.
He proposes to accomplish this by placing nails at the correct height and placing
the concrete to that level. At this time he will also need to place the anchor bolts ~
for the shear walls and mud sill. We have concerns about the ability to e-
accomplish this accurately under such circumstances.

The contractor, Kevin Rose, on the Zac Garripoli residence has asked us to ~
review the backfill requirement at the Kitchen - Dining Room section of the
footing. In our letter dated October 10th we are requiring back fill on both sides ~
of the footing to a depth of twelve inches above the top of the footing for dead
weight.
The contractor had requested we look at adding formed concrete to both sides of C,
the footing. We have reviewed this request and have approved this option for '-.)
adding dead weight to this existing footing. The attached detail shows how we ~
want the contractor to add the concrete and backfill at the exterior of the footing. 7-
