Public Safety Advisory Board Agenda
This meeting will be conducted as a hybrid meeting. In hybrid meetings, members of the public, Board members, and
City staff have the option to attend the meeting in person, in Council chambers at City Hall located at 321 East 5th Street,
Port Angeles, or remotely via telephone or video link.

The Public Safety Advisory Board desires to allow the opportunity for Public Comment. However,
the business of the City must proceed in an orderly and timely manner.

PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY BOARD

This meeting was conducted as a hybrid meeting.
CALL TO ORDER:
Chair McGuire called the regular meeting of the Public Safety Advisory Board to order at 6:03 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Members Present: Evan Brown (arrived at 6:13 p.m.), John Hauck, Jessica Johnson, Mary Margolis,
Michael McGuire, Sandy Sinnes
Members Absent: Kelsey Lane, Finn Thompson
Staff Present: Derrell Sharp, Fire Chief; Brian Smith, Police Chief; Catherine Dewey, Board Secretary.
REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Hauck made a motion and it was seconded by Margolis to:
Approve the November 20, 2024 minutes as corrected.
Hearing no objection, the motion carried 6-0.
Brown arrived and took his seat.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Community Member Susie Blake called in.
STAFF UPDATES
Fire Department Report – Chief Sharp provided staffing updates including new hires. He provided an update
on the Community Paramedics and the Emergency Post Overdose Response Unit. He noted the hire of the new
Fire Prevention Specialist, Tom Feik. Chief noted that the Fire Department recently had an All Staff meeting
that discussed guiding principles and expectations for the Department for 2025.
Police Department Report – Chief Smith provided staffing and recruitment updates. He also provided an
update on the drone program. He spoke to a 1988 cold case and the work done to solve that case. Chief Smith
also gave an update on the CRT responses that have taken place over the past few months. Chief smith provided
spoke to the progress in the Code Enforcement Department and some of their visible wins in the community.
Chief showed the Board his body worn camera and also noted that they will soon have cameras throughout the
community that will be able to read and scan license plates to identify if a wanted vehicle is in our area.
A question and answer session between Board members and Chiefs followed.
DISCUSSION AND POTENTIAL ACTION
Chair McGuire presented his letter of resignation from the Board.

No other reports were given.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair McGuire adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m
