RE: Criminal Justice Negotiation Team Appointment Recommendation
Dear Commissioners,
Thank you for your continued support as we all work together to achieve a fair and long-term criminal justice
contract for the residents of Port Angeles. The City remains dedicated to working collaboratively with County
leadership to resolve the outstanding issues regarding costs and levels of service as soon as possible. We are eager
to begin constructive negotiations along these lines.
During the February 3'd,2026, City Council meeting, staff provided Council with an update on this complex matter.
As part of the discussion, Manager West shared with Council that a six-month contract extension was fully executed
by all parties on December 29,2025, and that a Letter of Agreement with the County on several outstanding
contractual items had been proposed. Additionally, Manager West detailed that regular monthly meetings with
County and City leadership had been established to address key fiscal and service issues.
After the presentation, Council considered the following motion:
Appoint Mayor Dexter to serve as the City Council representative to the City's Criminal Justice Negotiation team
and request that the Clallam County Board of Commissioners appoint a commissioner who represents the City of
Port Angeles to serve as their representative to the County's Criminal Justice Negotiations team.
Council believes the addition of an elected official to the respective negotiating teams for the City and County will
be an important step towards enhanced collaboration, transparency and efficiency.
