Dear Mr. Furr,
I am writing to enthusiastically support the grant application for OPEN Housing/Treehouse Supportive
Housing. Project Establishing Roots addresses a critical shortage of permanent supportive housing for
individuals experiencing Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and individuals experiencing
poverty on the geographically isolated North Olympic Peninsula.
The OPEN/Treehouse Board of Directors has been serving the community since 2016.1n2023, after receiving
their first grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce to purchase a home in Port Angeles,
OPEN/Treehouse became the only non-profit housing developer on the Peninsula, specifically focusing on
housing people experiencing IDD.
As noted in the City of Port Angeles 2025 Housing Action Plan, our region faces unique geographic and
infrastructure challenges that make accessible housing increasingly vital.
Funding from the Kuni Foundation will provide OPEN/Treehouse with the opportunity to hire and retrain
experienced, knowledgeable staff, and accelerate the inclusion of people who experience intellectual and
developmental disabilities, and people experiencing poverty by providing safe, secure, accessible housing'
