PARKING ENFORCEMENT BY POLICE VOLUNTEERS
Purpose: To assist with providing parking enforcement within the City of Port Angeles
Responsibilities: To provide enforcement in a courteous and equitable manner under the
provisions of the Revised Code of Washington and the ordinances of the City of Port
Angeles.
Duties: To work as part of the law enforcement team under the direction of the Support
Services Officer or shift supervisor. Prior to being approved for parking enforcement
duties, the Police Volunteer will have attained the training related to City parking
enforcement and be certified by the Support Services Officer. The training shall include
a review and understanding of the policies, standards, and guidelines of the Port Angeles
Police Department, including the understanding that parking tickets are confidential law
enforcement records.
Oath of Office: The Police Volunteer will be sworn in by the Chief of Police or his
deisgnee, prior to assuming any parking enforcement duties.
Attire: The Police Volunteer shall wear the standard volunteer shirt, slacks, and jacket.
The jacket and shirt shall have "Police Volunteer" in bold lettering.
Hours: Parking enforcement by volunteers shall be incidental in nature, and no regular
hours shall be assigned.
This agreement is entered into with the clear understanding that either party to this
agreement may, with 30 days written notice, cause this agreement to become null and
void, at which point the parties agree that they will return to the practice of permitting the
parking enforcement function to once again be performed exclusively by bargaining unit
employees.
