Introduction
Quality
McQuay air handling equipment has been respected and
regarded as a high quality product for nearly 60 years.
McQuay has taken a major step in redefining the indoor
air handler with the VIsion air handler. Demands for
Improved indoor air quality, low sound, high operating effi-
ciency and smaller mechanical rooms require a better
product for today's air handler market. The McQuay VISion
air handler has been designed to meet or exceed these
demands
The key to providing such a high quality product IS In the
basIc design. The McQuay VISion air handler's patented
construction has been designed to provide unequaled
thermal effiCienCies and to be airtight. In addition, VISion
air handlers offer tremendous flexibility in SIZing, compo-
nent options, and unit arrangements to meet the indoor air
quality, operating effiCiency, sound and installation
requirements for today's extensive commercial and cus-
tom markets
Flexibility
By virtue of ItS unique frame design, the McQuay Vision
air handler offers tremendous flexibility ThiS flexibility IS
reflected In our unique Vanable Dlmensloning™ feature
that allows VISion air handlers to be sized In two-inch
Increments (height and width) to fit the available space
Numerous section and component options, and the ability
to arrange components In whatever arrangement
required, allow ViSion air handlers to be customized to the
requirements of each job Without expensive field modlfica-
lions Finally, VISion air handlers can be shipped as a
completely assembled unit, In modules or by component
sections for new or retrofit applications that reqUire
smaller sections for passage through the bUilding
Cabinet .Construction
McQuay VISion air handler cabinetry consists of a box-
type frame channel - the backbone of the Unit - and easy-
to-remove panels or hinged access doors The unique,
patented frame channel deSign allows three Identical
pieces to be bolted together to form a corner of the unit.
Channels are formed of G90 galvanized steel or G60
painted galvanized with factory applied neoprene gasket-
Ing on all flanges to minimiZe leakage. Gasketing IS also
factory applied at all contact surfaces between intenor and
extenor metal components to minimiZe thermal bndging
Panels are secured to the Unit With fasteners that can be
eaSily removed to access the Unit intenor. The frame
channel and panels can be eaSily disassembled and reas-
sembled, giving contractors tremendous fleXibility In
installing and servicing the Units - even where space is
very limited - and saving time and money. Patented splice
JOints help gUide sections together for a tight fit, saving
addilional time and money on installation. Splice JOints are
also fully insulated at the factory.
Patented gasketed frame channel
ThiS unique cabinet deSign results In air tight, thermally
effiCient units, which translates Into energy savings over
the life of the Unit. VISion air handlers are capable of leak-
age rates less than 0 5 CFM per square foot of cabinetry
at 5 0" pOSitive static pressure Units Will not sweat when
exposed to intenor air temperatures down to 50oF, and
extenor room conditions up to 70% relative humidity.
VISion air handlers are available With or without Insulation,
and With Single or double wall construction Double wall
units are available With solid or perforated galvanized and
solid stainless steel liners Fiberglass insulation IS avail-
able In 1- or 2-inch thickness and 1-1/2, or 3 pound per
cubiC foot denSities The thickness of the Insulation IS
never compromised for maximum thermal effiCiency A full
thickness of uncompressed Insulation IS proVided through-
out the unit - including underneath the drain pan.
Base rails are proVided as an option on Unit sizes through
21 square feet and are standard on larger Units. They are
available to meet jobslte height requirements, ranging from
4" to 12" and can eliminate the need for a housekeeping
pad - saving time and money on Installation. A full penme-
ter base rail per shipping section IS factory assembled

Access and Serviceability
Equipment must be designed to perform efficiently and
withstand the wear and tear of everyday use. It must also
be designed to provide easy access to Intenor compo-
nents for routine maintenance and service to maintain
peak performance The patented frame channels and
easy-to-remove panels or hinged access doors of the
VIsion air handler cabinet provide complete access to the
unit Interior and components Components, including the
fan and cOil assembly, can be removed through the Side of
the Unit, top of the unit, or a combination of both, which
reduces required service clearances. COil removal on
unstacked cOlis does not reqUIre access to the non-con-
nection end of the COIl. A unique COil tie down method sim-
plifies COil removal and replacement
Easy access for routine mamtenance and servIce
Top and SIde panel, frame channel removal for
component replacement
Vision SelectTOOLS ™ Software
Selection Program
Because the McQuay air handler IS so flexible and has
many different component types, there are Virtually an infi-
nite number of unit arrangements pOSSible To help the
customer easily define their product requirements,
McQuay provides a user fnendly selection program, called
the ViSion SelectTOOLS ™ Software Selection Program.
ThiS program configures and sizes both standard and cus-
tom Units. Components can be selected in minutes. ThiS
Windows@ based program Will lead the user through the
selection process by prompting for pertinent Input data for
all components required. Component sections are
selected by plaCing them on a configuration screen. Once
the unit laYDut IS defined, the options and access ones are
Identified The program gives Immediate feedback regard-
Ing fan and COil selection, offenng a chOice of many differ-
ent options based on the performance Inputs Once final
component selections have been made, the program Will
provide all output needed for speCification and submittal
purposes, Including fan curves, COil performance psycho-
metnc charts, weights, dimenSional draWings, and a Unit
speCIficatIon A fully detalled.DXF file IS also available.
The VISion SelectTOOLS Software IS a comprehenSive,
effiCient and user fnendly selection program

The McQuay ACZ Air-Cooled Condensmg Unit is a product of the McQuay commitment
to offer quiet, relIable, energy efficient eqUIpment. An approach incorporating high quality
compressors, state-of-the-art coil desIgn, and innovative packaging.
Construction
Factory assembled and mounted on a heavy-gauge steel channel base. The base ralls,
supports and cabmetry are powder-coat pamted. The base distnbutes the umt weIght for
roof loadmg. Vaned and convement mstallatlOn IS pOSSIble by VIrtue of the unit's small

three Teflon Impregnated bearings, and three oil filtratlOn deVIces for each compressor.
Using Copeland's ComplIant Scroll tandem compressors proVIdes two, four or SIX steps of
capaCIty modulatIOn depending on model SIze. One compressor can run alone, depending
on the load of the system, resultmg m excellent part-load effiCIency. Each refngerant
CIrcmt has specIally deSIgned 011 and gas equalizatlOn Imes to control 011 rmgratlOn.
The design also offers radIal and aXIal complIance (no tip seals), a large mternal volume for
lIqmd handlIng, a removable suctlOn screen, and a rotary dIrt trap and 011 screen. In
addItion, the compressor IS self-compensating for wear, handles liqmd and debns, and
mherently YIelds the hIghest effiCIency for its class.
ThIS well protected compressor mcludes a solid-state motor protection module, 4 mdIvIdual
motor-wmdmg sensors, a patented internal discharge temperature probe, and a patented
shutdown feature that prevents reverse rotatlOn. An internal dIscharge check valve helps
prevent shutdown nOlse and comes standard WIth hIgh and low pressure taps WIth Schrader
valves, a SIght glass, an 011 level adjustment valve, and an off cycle crankcase heater.
Umts are avmlable in 60 Hertz electncal voltage configuratlOns from 208 to 575 volt
operatmg at 3500 RPM.
Condenser Coils
Condenser coIls have mternally enhanced seamless copper tubes arranged m a staggered
row pattern. The COlIs are mechamcally expanded mto McQuay lanced and nppled
alummum fins WIth full fin collars. A vanety of optlOnal COlI matenal and coatmgs are
available for corrOSIve atmospheres. An mtegral subcooler cIrcmt prOVIdes subcooling to
greatly reduce the pOSSIbilIty of liqmd flashmg The external condenser COlIs are fitted WIth
a protective WIre mesh guard as standard eqmpment.
Condenser Fans and Motors
MultIple dIrect drive dynarmcally balanced propeller fans operate m formed ventun
openmgs at low tip speeds for maXImum efficiency and minimum nOlse and vlbratlOn. A
heavy-gauge vmyl-coated fan guard protects each fan.
Each condenser fan motor IS heavy-duty, 3-phase, Totally Enclosed AIr Over (TEAO) WIth
