'l he City has received your request to forfeit the $115 sign permit fee relative to placement
of a POW -MIA sign along the Tumwater Truck Route adjacent to your property. the sign
placement is part of a memorial highway designation authorized by the Washington State
Transportation Committee.
Section 14.36 of the Port Angeles Municipal Code defines a sign as Any letterss, figures.
design. symbol. trademark, or device to attract attention for commercial proposes...' The
structures that you are proposing to place along State Highway 17 (Tumwater Truck
Route), referenced in your letter of July 3. 2013, do not therefore constitute commercial
signs and can be exempted from the permitting process. Per Washington State
Department of 'Transportation, the signs are to be placed entirely on private property

Memorial Highway MIA KIA, "You will not be forgotten" Black and White
Good news on the POW /MIA front. Last month Chuck Gagnon, Don Roberts and myself attended the
Washington State Transportation Committee in Port Townsend meeting regarding the Memorial
Highway. It appears that we passed with flying colors. Clallam Counties Commissioner Mike Dotherty
was there to witness our success in our presentation. Chuck Gagnon said that one of the POW /MIA sign
is now standing and the next sign will be erected this coming week.
We wish to install 2 signs, #1 at "Rainbow Sweepers" Driveway, #2 at "Tire Factory" Driveway. The
signs are 4' x 8' maven Plywood Black and white. The top of the sign is 10' from the base, the bottom of
the sign is 6' from the bottom of the base (32 sq. ft.) each.
