A complaint has been filed with the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency (ORCAA)
regarding emissions from a woodstove that was recently installed at 1105 S. G
Street. Allegedly, the chimney has emitted disturbing odors and /or thick smoke
that caused a nuisance. A nuisance includes unreasonable odors from burning
prohibited materials (i e trash) and /or thick smoke.
Please be aware that only a certified woodstove may be installed in a building or
structure. The only materials that can legally be burned in a woodstove are clean,
dry, properly seasoned firewood and enough paper to start a fire. Installation of
an uncertified woodstove and /or any emission that unreasonably impacts a
neighbor s health or use and enjoyment of their property is a violation that could
result m enforcement action and the issuance of monetary penalties.
Enclosed is a brochure that contains information on health effects from wood
smoke and methods to reduce these harmful emissions from indoor burning
We ask that you obey the law and be considerate and respectful of neighbor's right
to breathe clean air. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this letter
