HomeMy WebLinkAbout1254ORDINANCE NO. /25-1/ An Ordinance of the City of Port Angeles adjusting the wages of certain employees of the electrical distribution system of the City of Port Angeles, amending Ordinance No. 1239, providing for the issue of emergency warrants, and declaring an emergency. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Commission of the City of Port Angeles as follows: SECTION 1. That by reason of Local No. 997 of the 'International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, having served written notice upon the City Commission of the City of Port Angeles, that un- less certain demandsfor increased compensation to certain employees of the Electrical Distribution System operated by the City of Port eles, be granted the members of said Local No. 997 would on and after 5:00 P.M., July 20th, 1951, cease to operate the facilities of such electrical distribution system. great and immediate hazard has resulted to the public health, safety and welfare of the people of the City of Port Angeles. That the necessity for granting such increases in compensation could not have been anticipated at the time bf preparing and adopting the budget of the City of Port Angeles for the year 1951. SECTION 2. That the cost of increasing the compensation and wages of such employees of the Electrical Distribution System operated by the City of Port Angeles, is the sum of 923.50 , 1l of which sum is in excess of any funds now available in the budget of the City of Port Angeles. SECTION 3. That the expenditures to be made in excess pf the funds provided in the budget of the City of Port Angeles for the year 1951, for the purpose of so increasing such compensation and wages, are for the protection and preservation of the public welfare, 'safety and health of the inhabitants of the City of Port Angeles and • • could not reasonably have been foreseen at the tine of the prepara- ytion and adoption of the budget of said City for 1951. SECTION 4. That by reason of the facts above stated, an emergency exists which requires the issuance of emergency warrants to provide for the cost of so increasing the compensation and wages of certain employees of the Electrical Distribution System operated by the City of Port Angeles in the total sum for the year 1951 of y 923.50 . That such emergency warrants shall be paid from revenues of the Electrical Distribution System. That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute, sign and deliver, and the City Treasurer to pay such emergency warrants as may be necessary to provide for such increases in compensation and wages, subject to the foregoing limitations. SECTION 5. That the amount of any such emergency warrants which may be issued shall be included and provided for in the annual budget of the City of Port Angeles for the year 1952. SECTION 6. That Section 1 of Ordinance No. 1239 of the City ;of Port Angeles, passed January 8th, 1951, is hereby amended to ;read in part as follows: UTILITIES: Light Department: Superintendent $481.66 Engineer -Radio Technician 365.00 Sub - Station Maintenance Electrician 395.00 Line Crew Foreman 442.00 6 Linemen, each 395.00 Line Truck Driver, Groundman 343.00 Utility Lan (.Meter Technician) 395.00 Meter Accountant 337.00 Meter Reader 308.00 Asst. Meter Accountant 290.00 Accountant 335.00 Billing Clerk 290.00 Janitor 125.00 • SECTION 7. That this Ordinance is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public safety, health and welfare of the people of the City of Port Angeles, that an emergency exists, and this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately 1 upon its passage, approval and publication in the manner provided by law.
