HomeMy WebLinkAbout1761• • ORDINANCE NO. /7 AN ORDINANCE amending sections of the City Code with reference to parking meters. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ANGELES as follows: Section 1. Section 17.37 of the Code of the City of Port Angeles is hereby amended to read as follows: "The chief of police is hereby authorized and directed to install or place parking meters in the parking meter zones hereby created, and in such other parking meter zones as may be hereafter created by ordinance of the city. Such parking meters shall be installed and placed only upon those streets, or portions thereof, in the parking meter zones, where parking is permitted, by this chapter or other ordinance of the city, although restricted as to time. Such parking meters shall be placed upon the curb alongside of, or next to individual parking places to be desig- nated as provided in this article, Each parking meter shall be placed or set in such manner as to show or display by a signal that the parking meter space adjacent to such meter is, or is not, legally in use. Each parking meter shall be installed and so ad- justed and set to display a signal showing legal parking during a period of fifteen minutes upon and after the deposit therein of a one -cent coin of the United States, and showing legal parking dur- ing a period of two hours upon and after the deposit therein of a ive -cent coin of the United States. Each parking meter shall also e so set, adjusted and arranged, that upon the expiration of the egal parking time it will indicate by a mechanical operation that lawful parking period has expired." Section 2. Section 17.39 of the Code of the City of Port geles is hereby amended to read as follows: • "Between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. on all days, except Sundays, New Year's Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, when any vehicle shall be parked in any space alongside of or next to which a parking meter is located, in ac- cordance with the provisions of this article, such vehicle oper- ator shall, upon entering such space, immediately deposit in the meter a five -cent coin of the United States for the maximum legal parking time of two hours, or a one -cent coin of the United States for a legal parking time of fifteen minutes, and put the meter in operation. If such vehicle shall remain parked in the parking space beyond the legal parking time which shall be designated by a sign or signal of the parking meter showing illegal parking, such vehicle shall be considered as parked overtime, and the parking of a vehicle overtime, or failure to put the meter in operation, shall be a violation of this article." PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Angeles and approved by its Mayor at a regular meeting of the Council held on the 6th day of June, 1972.
