HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 01/26/1954 " .- Minutes of the special meeting of the City of Port Ange~s Planning Commission~ January 26, 1954. Members present were Lamoureux, Stewart, McGee, Reiners, Hampton and Strange. Also ~resent was City Engineer Ahlvers. Minutes of the meetings of December 1 and December 15, 1953 were read and approved. .; First order of business was the consideration of an application of certain property owners in the vicinity of Columbia and Chambers Streets for the vacation of Chambers Street from Columbia Street north to the bluff and a certain portion of the alley in block-2 of the Puget Sound Cooperative Colony Subdivision. Also introduced at the same time was a petition signed by sixteen property owners in that vicinity~ expressing their disapproval of the application. A lengthy discussion followed during which time it was ag4'}in pointed out that it was against the policy of the Planning Commission to recommend the vacation of any streets or alleys and it was further pointed out that this particular street would readily lend itself for a Uturn around!! which could be used by the public as a view point and al'ter further d.iscussion, it was finally moved, seconded and unanimously passed that the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the application for the vacation ~rs ~~be denied and at the same time recommend th~t a suitable view point turn around road be constructed at that point for the use of the general public. Second order of business was a consideration of Mr. Reid Priests request for a tentative approval of a re-platt of a certain area in the vicinity of Sixth and Ennis Streets. After considerable d.iscussion, it was regularly mov~d, seconded and unanimously passed that the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council, approval of Mr. Priests tentative platt as to the general scheme. It being our understand that this is all that was requested by Mr. Priest at this time. Next order of business was the consideration of I~. Reid Priests request for permission of opening and grading a roadway on Sixth Street in the vicinity of Liberty Str~. There was a lengthy discussion on this matter and it is the understanding of the Planning Commission that Mr. Priest suggests the roadway be graded on an alignment that would be favorable to the particular area, part of the alignment being on private property owned by Mr. Priest and taking into consideration the last paragraph in his letter to Mr. G. S. Vergeer dated January 7, 1954, in which he says "Plan and profile will be furnished your Ci ty ~ngi~ er for his approval before the work is startedV with these ideas in mind, it was regularly moved, seconded and unanimously passed that the Planning Commission recommend to the Council their approval of this request.
