HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 03/21/1961 ~ Minutes of the regular meeting of the Port Angeles Planning Commission 4Ia March 21, 1961. Members present were Reiners, Driscoll, Anderson, Hunt, Hankins and Strange. Also present was City Engineer John Warder. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. First order of business was reconsideration of application of McDonald Funeral Home for zohing reclassification. Members again stated they were opposted to re-zoning of this property, but would consider an application for a variance which, if approved, would allow the construction of improvements desired. Chairman was instructea to notify Mrs. McDonald. If application for variance is made, hearing could be set by chairman. Hearing to be held on next regular meeting date~ Application of Mrs. Violet Hurlon~ for vacation of alley between 3rd and 4th, Peabody and Vine .nd also certain portions of Vine Street was next discussed. A sketch showing property owned by Mrs. Hurlong was submitted by the chairman. It was noted that Mrs Hurlong did not own any property on the north side of the alley and on the east side of Vine north of 4th street. It was again pointed out that the policy of the Planning Commission was against the vacation of any streets or alleys. In this case, it would especially apply to Vine Street as it is being used at present at least by trails to accommodate people walking thru. The matter was tabled for further consideration. 4It A letter from the Woodlawn Investment Co. addressed to Mr. Slankard askiQg for permission to establish an area permitting the installation of mobile homes on the plot known as Grandview Heights Subdivision was read. The location is between "M" and "N" Streets and one block north of 16th Street. In a general discussion it was generally agreed by the members that the property in question probably would be suitable for such classification. The chairman was instructed to write the owners and advise them to submit an application for a variance. The re-zoning of property in the area of 9th and. Washington Streets from 2nd class to 1st class residence waw next considered. ~t was generally agreed that the area south of the alley of 8th and 9th to the Boulevard and from Race Street east to Chambers Street comprising the south half of Blocks 276-277 and all of blocks 282-283 & 336 be included. The chairman was instructed to prepare a petition to this effect and secure the aid of Mrs. McHenry and others in the area to secure signatures. ^ - A general discussion on the advisability of the City establishing an ~ street parking area on the property between the City Jail and the new City Light Garage building was held. The Commission reiterated their stand in advising the Council that this should be done to afford relief to the ~rking problem. The posibility of holding a hearing for interested people was discussed and if, after checking into the matter concerning interest etc. and if found advisable, the chairman was instructed to set a date for a hearing.
