Members present were McGee, Hankins, Reiners, Gort and Strange. AlSO present was City Manager G. S. Vergeer and City Engineer Herman Ahlvers. First order of business was the readtng 01' a petition from Mr. A. P. Konopaskl and Mr. Theodore T. Carlson requesting a vacation of a portion of Liberty Street in the 6th and Liberty Streets area. At'ter some little discussion, the chairman appointed Reiners and Hankins as a committee to invetigate and report back to the Commission. Communication was read from Mr. G. S. Vergeer, City Manager, refering to a petition from Mr. & Mrs G. Feola requesting the vacation of a North-South alley running thru Block 129 of the E. W. Morse SubDivision. This petition had appeared before the Commission in November of 1952 and had been denied, however, it was agreed to again survey the situation and the Chairman appoin~ ed tiankins and MCG7e to investigate and report. - The chairman reported a communication from Mrs Anderson on the sale of the soutp 54 feet of 2t lots at 13th & Cherry Streets, if permission could be granted to ~llow residence to be built thereon. After some discussion and realizing the square foot area would be nearly 7,000 feet as required by ordinance and taking into consideration the improvement to the area, it was agreed that Mrs. Anderson be allowed to build. The chairman reported receiving a letter from the Chairman of the School Board inviting him to.a meeting on April 17th to discuss proposed school construction bond iBsae. There was considerable discussion of this matter, but no recommendation was given to the Chairman on the desires of the members present. There was further discussion on the problem resolVing from the School District barricading 2nd Street from Peabody to Chase during school hours. No particular action or recommendation was made at this meeting. . Mr. Vergeer spoke at length on the proposed sanitary sewer intercepter system that has been ordered by the Polution Control COmmBsion and Department of Health and asked that the members familiarize themselves with the problem in order that they may aid in advising the public when the matter comes up for consideration by the City Council in the very near future. Discussion on the programing of improvements for the City in the year 1957: It was suggested by the Commission to Mr. Vergeer that a program of street improvements, similar to the proposal on Cherry Hill covering the area East of Lincoln St. to the Francis Street Gulch and from eth Street south to the BOulevard be included and also, if pOSSible, the construction of a sanitary sewer covering the area West of the Tumwater Road and South from 10th Street be undertaken if possible. Mr. Vergeer brought up the matter of street lighting for discussion. Members present expressed their appreciation and approval of the lights that have been instailed up to this date and suggested to Mr. Vergeer that a continuatin of the lights up Lincoln Street and East and West 01' Lincoln on eth Street would, in their opinion, be the most desirable area to be included in the next program of lighting.
