Members present were McGee, Reiners, Hankins and Strange. was City Engineer Ahlvers. Also present Under unfinished business, the application of Mr. Joe C. Janish, for the vacation of First Street from Penn Street east to the City limits, was again brought up for consideration. According to recent survey, completed by Mr. John U. Wright licensed engineer, 'it appears that First Street as suc~, terminates at Penn Street and does not continue on to the easterly Ci~y limits as shown on most City maps. The Flrst Street re1'ered to in Mr. Janish's application is rather more like an alley, some twenty-nine feet in width extanding easterly from Penn Street and terminating at the City limits where it abuts private property. Inasmuch as Mr. Janish is the owner of all property both north and south of this alleyway and the probable impossibility of its extension to the east, it was the unanimous decision of the Planning Commission that the application be approved with the City reserving the right-of-way for utilities. The petition of Mr. Harry Lydiard and others requesting the Planning Commission to recommend to the City Council the acquisition of the Milwaukee Railroad right-of-way from "Elt Street to the westerly City limits was again taken up for consideration. It was the unanimous decision 01' the Planning Commission that the western part of the City can be adequately served by the present dedicated streets when they are improged and that further expense for street rights-of-way would not be justi1'ied. It is further recommended to the City Council that a certain portion of this right-or-way from ~E" Street to the vicinity of 5th or 6th and "L" or 11M" Streets be acquired in order to improve the "Iu Street Hill Road and further tha-c the City examine all streets and alleys that may have been vacated to the Mil~aukee Railroad in the West End Area in order that these streets and alleys may be re-acquired. The Commission approved the suggested connection 01' 8th Street with 10th Street in the vicinity of "L" and "H" Streets as submitted by the special committee. Gave considerable time to the study of the engineers report on the pollution controll project as proposed for our City. No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned at 10:15 P.M. Respectfully submitted, ?~e,~ - cc to G. S. Vergeer
