HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 04/21/1953 I"'" . -- - Minutes of the regular meeting of the City of Port Angeles Planning Commission, April 21st, 1953. Members present were Lamoureux, Reiners, Stewart, Gort and Strange. Also present was City Engineer Ahlvers. First order of business was the consideration of a ~equest, which had been refered to us by Mr. Vergeer, from Mr. Ted Browne, representing property on the south side of Front Street, east of Lincoln Street. The request being for installation of a curb set back five (5) feet from. the present curh line in order to give more car parking space. This of course would not conform to the established curb line along the south side of Front Street. Mr. Browne appeared on behalf of his request and after a lengthy discussion, it was the unanimous opinion of the Planning Commission that we recommend that the request be denied. The matter of the exchange of lot 6 for lot 4, block-l tidelands west of Laurel as proposed by the Wheeler Hardware Co. with the City of Port Angeles was again brought up for discussion. It was finally unanimously decided by the Commission that we favor the exchange providing the Wheeler Hardware Co. pay an amount equal to the additional assessment to be levied by the Oak Street improvement on lot-b over and above the assessment on lot-~ and that we feel further there should be an additional amount paid to equalize the valuation, inasmuch as it is the opinion of the Planning Commission that lot-4, which is owned by the City, has more value than lot-o, owned by the Wheeler Hardware Co. due to the location of these lots with r~spect to the hub of the business area Which we deem to be Front and Laurel Streets. The matter of forming a local improvement district on Cherry Hill, as proposed by Mr. Clarence Flatau who had attended our last meeting, was then introduced. After a considerable discussion, with relation to the size of the area, type of pavement, draining, curbs and gu~ters and all other incidentals to an improvement of this kind, it was decided that between now and our next meeting~ we would discuss the matter with the City Manager, the Mayor and other interested parties in order to prepare a petition to be circulated by Mr. Flatau, his neighbors and others. No further business appearing, meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M. Respectfully submitted, /f~ ~ ~~ - cc to G. S. Vergeer
