New Business Two applications for variance or Conditional Use Permits have been received and properly. posted for hearing at this meeting. Clarence A. Edwards, 1019 South "FlI Street, has requested a variance from the regulations of the RS-7 zone to permit him to enlarge a pre-existing, non-conforming, single-family residence by constructing an addition to the north side of the existing dwelling. Harry Brown has requested a Conditional Use permit to allow him to convert an existing building at ll12 West 7th Street to a duplex. This is an RS-7 zone. e Other Business - A notice has been received from the Federal Aviation Administration notifying us that Olympic Memorial Hospital has applied for permission to install a private-use heliport on the hospital grounds. They have requested comment from the City, regarding zoning, safety etc. 2 copies of the May "Zoning Bulletin!1 are being put in circulation. Please pass these around among Planning Commission members. . ~ Council Action - At its. regular meeting. of May 19, 1970 the City Council took the following~action on business referred from the Planning Commission meeting of May 11, 1970. ' St.Andrews Episcopal Church. - approved as per recommendations. Del Guzzi Const;- King George Restaurant - approved as per recommendati ons. C. A. Conell - Mobil home extension - approved as per recommendations. C.orrd I Members of the City Council will be present for a joint study session with the Planning Commisslon following this regular meeting. As of this date, I know of nothing else coming up at this meeting. '. Minutes of the Port Angeles Planning Commission meeting of May 25,1970. e Present: Hunt, Sannes, McHone, Treat, Dilling, Young, Secretary Willson. Absent: Anderson The meeting was opened at 7:35 P.M. in'the Municipal Chambers. Minutes of the prp.vious meeting were approved as received. e Old Business - Mr. Fred Jewell's request for a land swap at 14th and Mac- Donald Streets was brought up for consideration. Memos from the Light Department and Public Works Departments were received and included in the-discus~ion. Mr. Jewell ~as present to answer questions. Atter a lengthy discussion it was recommended the exchange be approved, contingent upon the following items: 1. All utility rights be retained in the existing right-ot-way. 2. The new right-at-way be located, established and monumented by a licensed land surveyor at Mr. Jewells expense. 3. The projection of this same right-of-way across Suburban lot 86, p~rallel with the bluff line, to its intersection with "Q" Street also be investigated at Mr. Jewells expense. I f-e no Mr. Vern Bates, manager of the Arctic Circle Drive-in;Awas tabled at the last meeting. The members had giwn the matter further consideration and looked the site over again. It was voted to recommend the variance requested be modified and the addition be allowed to extend to a point 4t feet from the south right-of-way line of the alley. No openings are to be provided in the north wall ot the addition, and llspeed bumps" are to be installed in the driveway approaches to the alley. Mr. Weston D. Withers request to operate an auction house in the 16th/17th alley just east of "C" Street was brought up for discussion. Members had taken another look at the area and recon- sidered the application. Following a discussion, it was voted to recommend be request be denied. It was the general feeling that this type of operation should more properly be conducted in one of the Industrial zones or possibly in the CAD zone. New Business - Mr. Clarence A. Edwards, 1019 South "F" Street had requested a variance to permit him to enlarge a pre-existing1 non-conforming, single-family residence in an RS-7 zone. The existing building has insufficient setback from the side street on a corner lot. The proposed addi tion would be into the backyard "area. After a short discussion, it was voted to recommend the variance be granted. Mr. Harry Brown had requested a Conditional Use Permit to allow him to convert an existing dwelling, at 1112 West 7th St., to a duplex in an RS-7 zone. The application was discussed but Mr. Brown was not present to answer questions and the matter~was tabled until the next meeting. e Other Business - A notice from the Federal Aviation Administration W3S received notifying the Planning Commission of an application for a heliport at Olympic Memorial Hospital. Following a brief discussion it was voted to recommend approval. e e e Minutes - Planning Commission May 25, 1970 page 2. Other Business (cont.) Several residents from the west Lincoln Heights are~ ;were in the audience and inquired about progress of the LID proposed for that part of town. The Secretary attempted to answer their questions, but advised that their best source of information would be the City Engineering Department.
