Members present were Anderson, Dilling, Driscoll, Hankins, Hunt, McGee and Sttange. . Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. First order of Dusiness was the continueance of the hearing on the appliC3tion of the Port of Port Angeles for a variance from the zoning regulations on certain suburban lots in the air- port area, the request being to change the designation from first residence to a Manufacturing and Industrial classification. At the first hearing on,this application a group of nearby residents of the area had appeared in protest, also submitting a petition with approximately 35 names in support of their claims, the same group were present at this meeting, registering their fears of noise, vibration and other objectional features that mi~ht result from establishing an industry in the area. Mr. Reed Priest to whom the Port of Port Angeles is considering a lease on the area was present and was called on to explain his proposed developement after a lengthly discussion the problem seemed to resolve in to one of contr~l of the objectional features. A motion was unanimously passed recommending to the City Council the application be approved with the following / provisions -"That the variance be granted only on the area under consideration for lease by the Port of Port An]eles to Mr. Priest. L That a real effort be made to control such objectional features as noise, vibrations, etc. That proper screening by native trees -1 and other growth be maintained. That the developement be at least ~ 300 feet south of 18th street. That final judgement on compliance with the above restrictions rest with the Planning Commission". The Chairman reported to the group on an inquiry of their attitude toward the possible vacation of a portion of 6th Street near Valley Street. He was advised to report to the persons involved, that the Commission would be opposed to such an application. Mr. Chet Alexander was present and disclosed plans for a future rest home which is being propos~d for construction in the area of Vine and Lopez Str~ets and filed application for a variance from the zoning regulations.
