First order of business was the consideration of a petition from property owners in the vicinity of 9th and Washington Streets. The petition asked for a change in zoning of the area from 2nd to 1st Residence District. It was explained to Mr. Myren and other~s present representing the district that it was the intent of the Planning Commission to recommend to the council, the change when a new ordinance would be adopted which would probably be within a year. Those present felt the change should be at an earlier date in order to secure the district against possible types of undesirable construction. After considerable discussion, it was unanimously agreed the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council the re-classification of the following property: South one half of Block 275, all of block 276 with the exception of Lots 8 and 9, Blocks 277, 282, 283,284,335, and 336, Townsite of Port Angeles. This property to be changed from Second Residence District to First Residence District. ~ The meeting was then given over to a study pertaining to a schedule for arterial improvements. The study to include a list of arterials to be considered, their probable importance to the City, the priority when compared one with another, and the probable cost of construction. The study revolves around the use of State gas tax and City matching funds. During the lengthy and general discussion, several ideas were advanced and duly noted. It was agreed that each member give further thought and study to the problems and be prepared to discuss them at our next meeting which is set for July 30th.
