HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 08/15/1961 I" - Minutes of the regular meeting of the Port Angeles Planning Commission August 15th, 1961. Members present were McGee, Hunt, Anderson, Driscoll and Strange. Also present was City Manager M. W. Slankard and City Engineer John Warder. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. - The first order of business was the. consideration of an application from Mr. F. P. Donahue for a variance from the zoning ordinance to permit the construction of a one story seven unit apartwent house on Lots l7-18-l9 and 20 in Puget Sound Co-Op Colony Second Addition, being located at Park Avenue and Peabody Streets. This property is adjacent to the present service station and grocery store located on the corner. The proposed aparements would be on the next lots westerly from the grocery store facing on Park Avenue. In talking to the Dearest residences in the area, they expressed approval of the improvement and after discussion it was the unanimous decision of the Planning Commission that they recommend to the City Council the application be approged. At the invitation of the Planning CommiSSion, four members of the iity Library Board were present to discuss matters pertaining to their etter to the C1ty Council. relative to an addition on the East side (or back) of the present library building. After a report by the Chairman and City Engineer stating it was not feasable to build on the East side of the building because of the poor condition of the log bulkhead supporting the fill. The matter then concerned what probable solution could be arrived at to relieve the crowded condition of the Library. Mr. Slankard then gave a report stating that the City was in a position to proceed with construction on an addition to the West side of the present building which would modernize and enlarge the building which should serve the Community for several years into the future. This report certainly pleased the Library board members and after general discussion the Planning Commission unanimously approved the proposition and recommended to the City Council that they proceed with the construction at the earliest possible date. An application from Mr. Dan Brakua was next read asking fob the opening of the alley in Block tl of Fogerty and Dolan Addition. The Chairman informed Mr. Brakus the matter involved a legal decision and that the City Attorney would be consulted before a decision could be reached. -~, The same decision was reached on a petition for the vacation of the alley in Block 36 of Fogerty and Dolan Addition, as there seems to be some question if the alley could assumed to be ready for use inasmuch as some of the area was plated in 1894.
