HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 11/05/1963 ~ Minutes of the regular meeting of the Port Angeles Planning Commission November 5th, 1963. - Members present .were Anderson, Driscoll, Hankins, Hunt, McGee and Strange. Also present were City Manager Donald D, Herrman, Director of Public Works John B. Warder and Assistant Engineer Robert Wilson. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. First order of business was a hearing on the application of Charles R. Sheperd of 238 West 10th St. Lot 10, Block 326 on his request for a variance from the zoning ordinance to allow the construction of a car port on the Cherry St. side of the lot, nearer to the street than the required 7 feet. Mrs Shepard being present, explained their position in the matter saying they thought it better to have the car port even tho it did not meet the side yard regulations, rather than parking vehicles in the street. After some discussion, a motion was passed laying the matter on the table until next meeting and also requesting the Shephards to submit a sketch showing the proposed layout. Next was the scheduled hearing on the application of Mr & Mrs George H. Klahn of 1519 West 12th st. Lots l5 and l6, Block 358 for permission to build a two car garage within three feet of the east property line. The property east of Lot 16 being vacant and the owner of same supporting Mr. Klahn's request. Mr & Mrs Klahn being present, explained their problem. After discussion, it was regularly moved and unanimously passed that the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the application be approved. . Chairman reminded the members it was again time to consider payment for secretarial and stenographic help rendered by Phyllis Gardner to the Commission and recommended an amount of $75.00 be paid for the year 1963. A motion was unanimously passed ordering same. A further discussion on the proposed off-street parking ordinance was then held and it was agreed that the members give thought to the problem and that it be made a major toptc for our next meeting. On a discussion of the traffic circulation problems as proposed by M. G. Poole and Associates and refering to the origin and destination survey conducted by the State of Washington and the City of Port Angeles in 1952 . and the suggested up dating of the survey as brought out at the regional planning meeting on October 29th, 1963, it was suggested that the Chairman write the planning division of the State Highway Dept. to ascertain t~e probable assistance on their part and also the probable cost to the C1ty.
