HomeMy WebLinkAboutAssociation of Washington Cities (10) September 20, 2012 a v w, Mayor Cherie Kidd City of Fort Angeles IBC Box 1180 SE `) Fort Angeles, WA 98382 1 IRE; 2013 AWC Membership Fees Dear Mayor Kidd It's been a satisfying and challenging year serving you, along with AWC's 280 other cities and towns. We are one of the few municipal leagues that year, after year can claim 100%, membership. We understand that your participation is voluntary and that says a lot to me and the entire AWC staff. You know the real value in the collective city voice and influence all Washington's cities and towns have when we work together. I want to share with you a few highlights from this past year. It was an unprecedented special session with this year's session running as long as statutorily allowed. louring this extraordinary time, AWC lobbyists were intently focused on working with legislators in protecting state- shared revenues and finding a way to help the state without incurring permanent city losses. When the final special session ended, cities preserved a portion of liquor revenues, were able to share a portion of the one- time sale of liquor properties, maintained money in the capital budget for specific projects, received a reprieve on stormwater permits and avoided B&C►tax legislation that would have reduced local revenues and control. This summer we asked for your participation and valuable input to the 2012 City Trends Report; the goal of which was to identify the trends affecting cities and towns now and into the future. Your response was outstanding, with at least one person from 200 of the 281 cities participating, representing 1% of member cities. The City Trends Report will soon be distributed electronically and at the upcoming Regional Meetings, As 2012 will soon be coming to an end, we look forward to serving you in 2018, Your Beard of Directors met in August to determine the high level goals for AWC over the next several years. With the 2012 City Trends Report as the framework for discussion, the AWC Board deliberated the overarching challenges facing our cities and towns, bath now and in the future. With these in mind, the next AWC strategic plan will focus on helping you to successfully meet these challenges. We know that many Washington cities and towns continue to face difficult economic times. Membership fee rates will continue to be the same as the last few years, with changes only reflecting changes in your population, according to the most recent OFMI data. Your 2013 membership fee will be $ 11,7501. This is simply a notice for budgetary purposes; we will send you an invoice in December.. I do want to let you know about upcoming events that you should plan on attending. Beginning next week, I'm facilitating twelve AWC regional meetings in convenient locations across the state. We'll discuss the recent City Trends report, key emerging issues„ preliminary legislative priorities and expectations for 2013, and I want to learn more about the important issues facing your city. Thank you for being the backbone of AI,I C. Your support and passion for public service rakes our work possible. Sincerely, Mike McCarty, CIO Cc: Byron Olson, Chief Financial Officer
