HomeMy WebLinkAboutCoast Guard Proclamation O\�y OF PORT ANC`Fs F PROCLAMATION In Recognition of the 150 YEARS of SERVICE BY THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD WHEREAS, the Coast Guard has had a presence in Port Angeles since 1862 when the Revenue Cutter Shubrick made stops here; the Revenue Cutter Lincoln was based in Port Angeles in 1866; and WHEREAS, in 1929, Coast Guard Station Quillayute River was established; and WHEREAS, the Coast Guard Air Station was completed in 1935 and is celebrating 80 years of service to the citizens of Port Angeles; and WHEREAS, in 1938, the first official airmail out of Port Angeles was taken by a USCG amphibian piloted by Lt. Commander Norman M. Nelson; and WHEREAS, in 1942 Beach Patrols were established at Baaddah Point, Ozette Beach, LaPush and Kalaloch to patrol and protect Clallam County; and WHEREAS, in March 1944,an Air-Sea Rescue system was established and the Commanding Officer at Port Angeles was designated to head the new organization; and WHEREAS, the Coast Guard has been,and continues to be, an important part of our civic, economic and community life; and WHEREAS, individual Coast Guard personnel have contributed significantly to every phase of public service in our community, even into retirement years; and WHEREAS, Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles carries out its mission to protect citizens through search and rescue, environmental protection and law enforcement; and WHEREAS, we recognize and value this association with the Coast Guard; past,present and future. d a n NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dan Di Guilio, Mayor, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF PORT ANGELES, do hereby RECOGNIZE the celebration of 150 years of service to our community and mark the 80`x' anniversary of the Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles. We wish to thank all the great men and women who have served in the United States Coast Guard.
