Dear Ma 4-Gui1 0,
Spokane is a safer, stronger, smarter, and healthier community today because of our commitment to community
engagement. We have reduced crime, refined our response to non-emergency medical calls, thought holistically
about stormwater management and leveraged our dollars to achieve more for our streets and parks.
1 am proud to share a summary of recent City of Spokane accomplishments we are delivering with Vision 2020. The
outcomes demonstrate how Spokane has come together, stayed together and worked together to deliver more for our
citizens'investments. We talk a lot about innovations and new ideas as we build the City of Choice. We work every
day to provide services that are consistent with citizen priorities, delivered at the level they expect and at a cost they
can afford. Many of the resulting innovations involve stretching and taking risks to deliver impacts like:
• Reducing crime citywide by more than 8 percent
Adding 12 new firefighters to expand fire service in southwest Spokane and enhance medical
response citywide _
e Improving quality of life for individuals while saving more than $60,000 annually per person via the
Hot Spotters program and reducing the burden on the system
® Investing $1.2 million in low-barrier housing for chronically homeless individuals
•- Committing to end veteran homelessness this year
• Engaging nonprofit organizations, businesses and individuals in the community-wide Spokane Gives
Week initiative to encourage year-round volunteerism
• Securing $25 million annually in street improvements over the next 20 years
E Investing$64 million in Riverfront Park, the first major improvements in 40 years
• Getting to a cleaner river faster and more affordably by getting pollutants out of the Spokane River
so citizens and visitors can get back in
At the root of the very best outcomes is engagement with citizens who take the time to bring new perspectives,
share experiences and challenge us to think beyond what we've always done. We have asked and they have
delivered, so it is my great pleasure to share these outcomes with you on their behalf. Thank you for allowing me
the opportunity.
Sincerely,
David A. Condon
