CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Downie opened the meeting at 7:30 a.m. ROLL CALL: Members Present: Cherie Kidd, Patrick Downie, Mark Ohman, Jim Jones, George Bergner, Kaj Ahlburg, Sherry Curran, Larry Morris, Wendy Clark-Getzen Members Absent: Jim Hallett, Bill Greenwood, Ted Simpson, Andrew Schwab, Mike Edwards, Charlie Smith Staff Present: Scott Johns Others Present: Tom Swanson, Mark Urness Public Present: None Approval of Minutes The March Meeting minutes were approved as presented. Late Items George Bergner introduced 2 guests, Tom Swanson and Mark Urnes. Mr. Bergner explained that Mr. Swanson intends to bicycle from Port Angeles to Panama New York as a fund raising event to help fund the Port Angeles Education Foundation. The sponsorship project was explained and its merits discussed. Mr. Bergner asked the committee to provide a letter of support to Mr. Swanson efforts. A motion was made and seconded to approve the provision of a support letter. The motion was passed unanimously. Old Business Mark Ohman provided an update on the Revitalize Port Angeles efforts for the downtown area. Beginning in May, several projects are planned, including cleaning and painting the Laurel St. stair case, providing aerial equipment to paint second stories and building trim, and other activities to improve the appearance of the downtown and to involve more people in civic affairs. George Bergner added that the Port Angeles Business Association is also planning an action to improve the appearance and usability of the First/Front St. alley through downtown. Vice Chair Downie and Mr. Bergner provided a summary of the meeting held between Port Angeles City officials and Victoria's government representatives regarding efforts to mutually support each other's visitation and tourism opportunities and experiences. A number of suggestions were presented and discussed at some length. George Bergner reported on the attempts to acquire and operate the closed Lincoln Theatre. The project has collected money or pledges for much of the purchase price, and are within $75,000 of the needed amount. Plans for remodeling and refurbishing the theatre was discussed. Associate Planner Scott Johns handed out brochures on the sponsorship program for the remaining elements of the West End Waterfront Park that still need to be funded to complete the project. Port Angeles Forward Committee Meeting Minutes for April 9, 2015 Mr. Johns also passed out certificates of appreciation to committee members that were not present at the April 7, 2015, City Council Recognitions Ceremony.
