Box 40600 Olympia, WA 98504 RE: 8th Street Bridges Dear Representative Van De Wege: I would like to take this opportunity to send my sincere thanks for meeting me for coffee here in Port Angeles and to let you know how much I appreciate that you took the time to discuss the current needs of the City of Port Angeles. This includes needed fencing to our new 8th Street bridges. The original bridges had fencing that was raised due to the need of public safety. Our new bridges originally had been recommended to have higher fencing, but cost cutting became imperative and the fencing was reduced to minimum standards. Our community values public safety and would appreciate assistance in funding to add to the fencing to ensure safety for persons in distress as well as our community as a whole. One of our bridges towers over the Tumwater Truck route. Objects thrown off the bridge endanger traffic below. Dangerous objects thrown off this bridge was one of the original reasons for raising the fencing on the previous bridges. We appreciate your service as our representative in Olympia. I look forward to continued cooperation as we all work toward a greater quality of life for our citizens. Sincerely, Cherie Kidd Councilmember CC City Council Dan McKeen, City Manager Phone: 360-417-4500 /Fax: 360-417-4509/TTY: 360-417-4645 We Ite: www.cityofpa.us/ mail: council@cityofpa.us 321 Cast Fifth Street - P.O.
