Smith, Laura w : I 'i Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 2011 10:10 AM r i I. Cc: Cody, Preston (HCA); Peters, Riley M (DOH) Subject: Untrue data Importance: High Laura: It has been quiet disturbing to see WDSF's press releases saying that the amount of dental decay has declined in preschoolers from 2005 and 2010. This is not a true statement. The Smile Survey 2010 shows that the amount of decay was as high in 2010 and in 2005. The small difference in percentage between the two years was not statistically significant. DON has epidemiologists and statisticians on staff that reviews the data to exhaustion before releasing it. The same untrue statement was listed in WDSF's fact sheet about the Smile Survey's results. These untrue statements are then used to state the effectiveness of ABCD. It is not reasonable to use state data to evaluate the effectiveness of one single program. Many programs and scenarios out there are responsible for the results. The article I am referring to is this one: <http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2011/apr/23/guest-opinion-oral-health-critica1- forchildren/> http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2011/apr/23/guest-opinion-oral-healthcritical- for-children/ The DOH Official DOH' Smile Survey Press Release is this one: «Smile Survey 2011 Press release.pdf>> Could we get to an agreement to release only true data statements? This will lead to miscommunication and confusion in the communities. Please let us address this important issue together. Joseli Joseli A.
