There are areas of interest that could be coordinated by both the City and County to improve our community that I would like to point out to you in this letter. A study commissioned by the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency in 2005 "Olympic Region Regional Modeling and Health Risk Assessment" clearly identified the elevated cancer risk posed by traffic corridors and woodstove smoke in our community. The main thing that has changed in the past eleven years is that the risk posed by industry has diminished, although it never surpassed the health risk posed by the other health risk factors. Here is the link to the study on ORCAA's website- https://www.orcaa.org/makeitgo/uploads/education/regional-modeling-risk-assessment.pdf ORCAA has also recently completed a study of particulate matter pollution in Port Angeles that affirms the impact of wood stove use during the colder months. Local air agencies and the state of Oregon have tackled this pollution problem by implementing uncertified stove phase out rules. With proper public education, the concerns of realtors and escrow agency staff that get loud during consideration of such a rule can take a back seat to the concerns of residents who would like to phase in better air quality. It is my opinion that the health risk assessment of 205 should be a valuable guidance document when the City and County make planning decisions regarding transportation and home heating choices. Thanks very much for your consideration of my comments. Rita Cirulis PO Box 213 Port Angeles, WA 98362
