I am a long term resident of this city (went through high school here) and I've seen a lot
of changes take place over the years.
There is one item that has always been a challenge with this city and that is, how to draw
tourists to this area and show case our natural environment resources.
I think a Marine Discovery Center on the city waterfront, with attractions for all ages
would be a wonderful draw. The marine environment here in the Pacific Northwest has
always been a great draw for tourists from all over the world. There are more things
happening in this area now than has happened in years. People are reading about them
and wanting to come visit because of those things.
The wonderful staff and volunteers at Feiro Marine Life Center and the Olympic Coast
Discovery Center always go the extra mile to help visitors feel welcomed and informed
about our local marine environment.
I see no reason why the loss of a few parking spaces would be a `deal breaker' for this
worthy project. I feel a new Marine Center would be a tremendous asset to our
community and align with all the city has done to improve our waterfront.
