HomeMy WebLinkAboutMarie McKeanMr. Mayor and Honorable Council members. I apologize for not being able to attend the last council meeting in person. My name is Marie McKean; I am the General Manager of New Moon Craft Tavern & former GM of the Lazy Moon Craft Tavern located at 130 S Lincoln St. On September 7, 2 city workers appeared and painted the curb in front of Fitness West & New Moon red, removing 3 of the 4 parking spots in front of the New Moon & Fitness West. There was NO notification to the businesses, nor any opportunity for us to provide input in resolving multiple safety issues on our block. The curb was painted red and the sign denoting the parking limits was removed from the sidewalk. I spent most of that day leaving messages with City Hall staff, speaking with several who were completely uninvolved yet, tried to put me in touch with the proper Departments. I received NO return calls until just before 5 pm on the 7th from Craig Fulton, Director of Public Works, who left a voicemail, explaining this plan had been in the works for a year because of complaints from residents on 2nd St and continuing to say the "traffic committee" had visited the corner and come up with this solution in response to complaints from the residents on 2nd St. He apologized for no notification and left me a number to contact him at. I also spoke with City Manager Dan McKeen about the lack of notification, and obvious lack of support of local business in the process that was used to come to the decision to remove 3 parking spots on Lincoln St. We discussed several alternate solutions that would add parking on 2nd St, that could make crossing Lincoln St safer and several other issues of concern that had apparently been discussed, yet the choice was still made to go ahead with removing the parking places. On Sept 9, 2 of the parking stalls had been returned, yet the problem of shortsightedness remains. There are several solutions that common sense brings to mind, and if safety is in fact the driving force behind this then speak with the businesses who watch on a daily basis the problems at this and every other intersection in Port Angeles. These are my questions: 1. Who is the Traffic Committee? 2. When & where do they meet? 3. Who was ultimately responsible for making this decision? 4. Why was no one notified, not even PADA? 5. How can 4 houses in a commercial area be included in discussion and none of the effected businesses? I have been complaining about the intersection of 2nd & Lincoln for 2 1/2 years, yet my complaints from a business on the effected street, carried less weight than a residence up the hill indirectly impacted by traffic. Something is definitely fishy and not terribly professional in Port Angeles. Sinc rely, arie McKean 1728 W 15th St Port Angeles, WA 98362 360-460-6743 i SEP 2 2 2016 CITY pF PORTANGELES
