Public Works & Utilities Director City of Port Angeles 321 East Fifth Street Port Angeles, WA 98362 RE: 2016 Veterans' Day Ceremony Mr. Fulton: OCT 1 2 ?OIG The Clallam County Veterans' Association has the honor of sponsoring the 21St annual Veterans' Day ceremony at the United States Coast Guard Air Station/Field Office, Port Angeles. We are writing to request flaggers from the City of Port Angeles to assist with the traffic flow getting citizens on, and off Ediz Hook where the ceremony takes place (within city limits). The City of Port Angeles provided flaggers before and after the ceremony last year which helped the traffic flow tremendously (estimated 1200 people attended last year). The assistance the city provided in years past helped to stop the traffic jam that happened years ago by the hundreds of people trying to get to the ceremony location on Ediz Hook. There are two locations that would be ideal to have flaggers, the bottom of the Tumwater truck route and the stop sign located within the Nippon American paper mill. Both locations require vehicles to stop which in turn causes traffic to back up. We are hopeful the City of Port Angeles will join us in honoring the 15,000+ veterans that reside in Clallam County and assist in the transition to and from the ceremony. The event will take place on Friday, November 11 beginning at 10:30 am at the air station on Ediz Hook. Many members of the public attend this ceremony and begin arriving at the gate of Ediz Hook at 9:15 am. The event typically last 1 — 1 1/2 hours with citizens departing from the base beginning at 11:30 am. We are hopeful that the City of Port Angeles will consider this request in support of the citizens and veterans of our community. Please contact me at 360.457.8977 to confirm receipt and discuss details of the event.
