A, DATE: January 18,2003 TO: Bob Coons, Human Resources Glenn Cutler, Director Public Works & Utilities FROM: Trenia Funston, Engineering Specialist RE: Sanitary sewer repairs 124 W 1 st Street Angeles Plumbing obtained a right of way and sanitary sewer repairs permit on November 11, 2002 for the above referenced address. When it was determined by Angeles Plumbing that rotor rooting the side sewer lateral was not going to clear the line, Primo Construction was sub-contracted for the excavation and sidewalk brick removal and repairs. The repairs involved placement of sign age and coning off the area to divert pedestrian traffic safely away from the work area. The City's records for this sanitary sewer main indicate that the possible wye connection point came off the main at an angle west of the above referenced address. I checked the micro film records for any possible previous repairs to this line. Attached is an 1999 inspection report showing a repair inspected by Ron Johnson. The direction and information from this report indicated that the line did traverse westerly. Primo Construction removed brick and hand excavated in the direction the pipe appeared to be traveling. They were able to finally locate the lateral 3 feet from the curb, and approximately 6' east of the tree pit (identified on attached downtown water main drawing). It appeared that the lateral had previously been repaired with a short section of pvc pipe just east of the tree pit. It appeared this repair had failed and this was the point where Angeles Plumbing could not get past when they were rotor rooting the line. Repairs to the line were made by Primo Construction using a 5-6' section of pvc pipe. All of the repair was made east ofthe tree pit. The area west of the tree pit was not exposed. Angeles Plumbing videoed sections of the pipe. It is possible that the pvc pipe repair in the area of the tree pit may have been done by the water main contractor at the time of the placement of the trees.
