HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 01/04/2017 LODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE (LTAC) January 4, 2017 City Council Chambers, City Hall Port Angeles, Washington CALL TO ORDER: Committee Chair Cherie Kidd called the meeting to order at 3 p.m. Voting Members Present: Cherie Kidd,Ryan Malane, Vicki Heckman, and Robert Utz Non-voting Members Present: Dave Shargel Members Absent: Holly Dempsey Staff Present: Nathan West, Ben Braudrick,and Jennifer Veneklasen The committee unanimously approved the minutes from its October 2016 meeting. 2017 LODGING TAX EVENT GRANT APPLICATIONS: Director West spoke about the scoring matrix that the committee used to rate the event applications. The scoring criteria included the completeness of the application,the event date in relation to peak tourist season, overnight stays by tourists from 50 miles or more away,the number of people attending, and the value of the event based on the anticipated local revenue and tax generation. He said $101,000 had been allocated to event grants based on the committee's recommendation and City Council approval. The Committee discussed each of the 22 event grant applications and assigned preliminary funding amounts totaling$100,880, with allocations as follows: • January Challenge Meet January—$1,030 • Night to Shine—$0 • March Masters Meet—$850 • NW Cup Downhill MTB; Race Series—$ 5,000 • Age is Just a Number—$2,000 • Olympic Adventure Trail Run—$1,000 • Olympic Culinary Loop Fall and Spring Campaign—$1,500 • Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts—$12,000 • North Olympic Discovery Marathon—$12,000 • Captain Joseph House Run For Joe Marathon—$1,000 • Community 4th of July Celebration—$2,000 • ASB Pro Racing Series Race 2—$4,000 • Ride the Hurricane—$3,500 • Paint the Peninsula—$18,000 • ASB Pro Racing Series Race—$4,000 • Great Olympic Adventure Trail Run—$1,000 • Arts and Draughts Festival—$8,000 • The Big Hurt—$5,000 • The Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival—$14,000 • Captain Joseph House Chowder Cook-Off—$1,000 • Forest Storytelling Festival—$2,000 • Port Angeles Winterfest—$2,000 LTAC Minutes January 4,2017 Page 2 It was moved by Utz and seconded by Malane to: Accept the proposed funding developed, and to forward the recommendation to the City Council.
