CALLTo ORDER
Committee Chair Cherie Kidd called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Voting Members Present: Cherie Kidd, Robert Utz,Vicky Heckman, Holly Dempsey and Ryan Malane.
Non-Voting Members Present: Dave Shargel
Members Absent: Fowler Stratton
City Staff Present: Nathan West and Ben Braudrick.
MINUTES
Committee approved minutes from its September 29, 2015 meeting.
VERTIGO MARKETING PRESENTATION
Trevor Naranche and Lynette Braillard, of Vertigo Marketing,gave a presentation of the draft Marketing
Playbook for Port Angeles.
Committee discussion followed.
POSSIBLE CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
Ryan Malane disclosed that his business,Black Ball Ferry,is a slx)nsor,contributor or promoter of at least 65%of
the applicants. He said they do not receive any direct funds from the events.
Vicki Heckman disclosed that she is involved in the Port Ange"Ies Kayak and Film Festival and recused herself
from the discussion. Cheri Kidd noted that she does business with local events on occasion. Director West noted
that the business was not directly related to the grant funding,and that unless those in the audience felt there was
a conflict,she could remain and chair the discussion.
No other conflicts were noted.
The audience was asked to disclose any potential conflicts of interest they know regarding committee members.
None were given,
EVENT GRANT APPLICATIONS
The committee discussed the merits of the 16 event grant applications,considering the number of overnight stays
the event might generate in Port Angeles,timing,history,potential for success and money spent on out-of-town
marketing.
It was noted the committee had S70,000 in available funding and$93,000 received in requests for events. It was
also noted that an application was not submitted for the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts. Dan Maguire,director
of the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts was asked to speak on the reasoning behind his events grant application
omission. Mr. Maguire stated that neither he nor his staff had seen the email sent out to previous event grant
recipients. Ile had been out of town a major of the previous month. After he was notified of the Lodging Tax
meeting agenda he found the email. Mr. Maguire asked if it was possible to submit the application for
consideration.

Staff noted that two other application had been submitted late. 'rhe Committee allowed Mr. Maguire to submit a
late application for consideration at future meeting.

It was moved by Malane to:
Approve the$56,500 budget as outlined:
$ 3,000 to Port Angeles Kayak and Film Festival
$ 2,500 to NW Cup
$11,000 to Nortb Olympic Discover),Marathon
$ 1,500 to Run For Joe
$ 3,000 to Run Amuck
$ 3,500 to Extreme Sports Park ASB Pro Racing Events
$ 0 to the 38 Special Concert at the Extreme Sport Park
$ 4,000 to PNW Re&nal 14 yo Babe Ruth Baseball Tourney
$ 2,000 to Ride the Hurricane
$ 0 to The Great NW Duathalon
$ 6,000 to Arts and Draughts Beer and Wine Festival
$ 4,500 to The Big Hurt
$ 2,000 to Cascadia MTB Championship
$ 1,500 to Forest Festival StoryTelling Event
$11,000 to Dungeness Crab an Seafood Festival
$ 1,000 to Olympic Culinary Loop
Motion approved 4-0.
UPDATE FROM CITY STAFF
Due to the time,staff moved discussion of the Chamber of Commerce Annual Report to a future meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
