My name is Stephanie Dunn, Steph for short. I am 31 years old, a college
student, and am disabled. I live at the Terrace Apts on E. 6th St. I am very independent.
I use a power wheelchair to get around town. l'm told people see me rolling around town
all the time and how fast I go. I find it annoying after a while but that is not the purpose
of this letter.
I am writing to you because of your bus stop on Sth and Cherry. There is no ramp
to get off the sidewalk anywhere on that block. On Tuesday October 3,2017 , a friend
and I took the 235pm Cherry Hill bus home. We got off at the Sth and Cherry bus stop.
However, like I said, there is no ramp to get off in order to cross the street and onto 6th.
My friend and I got the idea of maybe trying to get me off the sidewalk carefully
ourselves. lt didn't work. I got stuck. I got my back wheels down but was not able to get
the rest of my wheelchair off the curb. While I laughed about it and had a good sense of
humor about it, it was also very frustrating. Thankfully a couple of people pulled over
while seeing me stuck and helped get me off the curb. lt took about a h I don't
understand the point in having a bus stop on that curb if there is no way to get down in
order to cross the street. How do people on that block pull out of their driveways? Do
they jump the curb? I find it a tad bit dangerous. Don't you? l'm writing to you to plead to
you to please put a curb cut somewhere so I and other people can get off that block
safely and efficiently. You have curb cuts in most places around Port Angeles but not
around some bus stops.
t'm asking you, would it be possible to look at the curbs in town for ramps to get
down, off sidewalks? l'm aware I'm not the only person in town who's disabled. I respect
that. Something needs to be done about these sidewalks though. lt would be greatly
appreciated. By me and by many others I am sure. Thank you for taking the time to read
my letter.
