Lauridsen Boulevard Port Angeles, WA 98363 Dear Tern'- This letter serves to confirm our conversation today regarding the completion ofThe Gateway. as well as the permanenl opening ofthe west parking garage. There are two major community events that ar€ scheduled in the next six weeks in Port Angeles. It is important that the wall repair in the pavilion area is completed. and that the west parking garage is open prior to these events. First of all. the Juan de Fuca Festival is scheduled for the end of May and these facilities are needed for this event. Second, during the Hood Canal Bridge closure, the downtown area will be involved in the "Our Community at Work: Painting the Downtown Project". Once the bridge reopens in mid-June, it is very important that we have the fence removed from The Gateway and this facility is completely open to the public to further showcase the improvements in the downtown and our entire cit-v. In order to meet the schedules for these events, please work out any remaining issues that you have with Jack Heckman so that the west parking garage can be fully opened to the public no later than May 22. Opening ofthe pavilion and the east parking area u,ill require the City 1o have the final design plans for the fix from your architect no later than May 4 to allow time for Primo Construction to complete the repairs prior to the Juan de Fuca Festival. Ifyour architect does not complete these plans by May 4. it will be impossible for the repairs to be completed prior to the Memorial Da1' weekend. Please let me know ifyou have any questions. Box ii50i Fo..1Angeles. WA98362-021/ As discussed with City officials and FTA staff members about two yea$ ago, current FTA gtants for the Gateway shouid remain open until all potential federal revenue is received and disbursed' For some unknown reason, Clallam Transit recently decided to close out your grants despite the fact that we have a pending request before congress for additional Gateway fundi-ng. when I spoke to Congressman DiJk's bffice this week about the status of the appropriation reque,st' they irldicat"d thaian appropriation for the Gateway is presently being considered and a final decision should be made in j-l weets. Due to our past hack record in receiving federal funding for this project, we are somewhat optimistic that this funding will be approved' In light ofthe facr that tiiere may be a major announcement regarding this appropriation in the nexisereral weeks, I urge you to take whatevet action is needed to either reopen one of the p.erio* grants or begirithe process of establishing a new grant process with FTA. Once. an announceinent is made we need assurances that there will not be any problem with Transit receiving these funds so that they can be used for covering Gateway expenses' Thank you for taking these actions in advance of this possible announcement' Sincerely, CITY OF Dear Terry: This serves to confirm our concems about the appropriation request that is currently pending before Congress for the Gateway project.
