We believe that we are the first group of citizens to serve our Port Angeles community in this capacity although many cities have tree boards. Tree boards are a common means of obtaining and maintaining Tree City IDSA status, and are also seen as playing an important role in generating and implementing ideas to improve city management of trees and forests on both public and private lands. The Tree Advisory Council currently consists of seven members elected from our community. We come from diverse backgrounds and offer knowledge and experience in arboriculture, wetland science, native habitat restoration, law, critical area ordinances, policy, public administration, education, stewardship, journalism, spiritual ecology, and community and volunteer organizing. The Council looks forward to working with the City towards a healthier, sustainable, and productive urban forest through such means as education, policy changes, and volunteer workdays. The Tree Advisory Council meets once a month. Cour meetings are open to the public and community involvement is encouraged. The Tree Advisory Council's intentions are to; * Affirm the community's awareness of the economic, social, environmental and aesthetic value of trees and its commitment to strengthening, preserving and enhancing trees within the city and its environments. * Delp restore Port Angeles' status as a Tree City through projects such as tree planting at each of the School District's five elementary schools in October, thereby celebrating a fall, Arbor Day. * Coordinate with groups interested in increasing public appreciation of trees and citizen support in developing our urban forest. * Develop recommendations, policies and procedures regarding trees on public and private property. We look forward to working with you. Sincerely, Port Angeles Tree Advisory Council Paige Belfry Elizabeth Dunne Devon Cray Christeal Milburn Brian Phillips Diana Somerville Justin Vendettuoli
