Box 4026 Port Angeles, W A 98362 E - ~ 1~ RE: Right of Way Permit This letter is in regards to your proposed paving project at 1311 West 16th Street. It appears that the permit for the purpose of constructing a paved parking area at the front of your 16th Street residence was issued in error. Normally these permits require review and approval by engineering prior to issuance. During a field trip earlier this week one of our engineering personnel observed that the preparation for the paved parking area is entirely within the City's right of way. This does not conform to City standards and is not a permitted use of the City's right of way. It is not our intent to disallow you off street parking, but the parking area which your contractor has prepared for the asphalt paving may result in unsafe conditions for egress onto the arterial street. In order to permit a parking area for the frontage of your residence, a driveway and parking pad would need to extend onto your property which may require removal of a portion of your fence. In residential areas where the lot frontage is less than 75' the maximum driveway width is 20'. The City is proposing a construction project in the near future to include installation of curb, gutter and sidewalk along 16th Street allowing for on street curb side parking. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have created, but as proposed the paved parking area within the City's right ofw<iy is not permitted. Please contact Public Works at 417-4807 if you choose to construct the parking area on your property, otherwise we will refund you the cost of the right of way permit.
