Dear Honorable Mayor Miyashita and Citizens of Mutsu:
From your sister city Port Angeles,please receive a most heartfelt congratulations on your 60th
anniversary of your establishment. Our relationship,that began in 1995,has brought about greater
understanding between our peoples and it has been an honor and pleasure to host and be guests at
your great city.
We cherish the many wonderful memories that have become part of the fabric of our community.

• The festivities celebrating the 10`h year anniversary of our agreement by the One World
Taiko drummers and dancers and a presentation by our Mayor Gary Braun and son and
grandson, all three who have been to Mutsu. "It's an interesting connection. Gary,his son
Scott and his grandson Eric all have been to Mutsu City. So that's three generations,"
• The reaffirming of our relationship with Mutsu by our students, while you, Mayor Miyashita,
and our Mayor Patrick Downie presided over this ceremony, celebrating 20 years.

But most important of all, is our yearly exchanges with our students. To see the students at first
tentatively reaching out to one another, not sure of what to do. Then, after only a couple of days,
they are best of friends and laughing together. The tearful goodbyes, knowing that they will miss
each other, is heartwarming knowing that they have forged friendships that can last a lifetime. Our
i students learned about a new culture,they learned to be open-minded to new ideas and ways to do
things, and most of all, they learned not to fear foreigners. Something that is incredibly important in
j our time. Our bond between our people is truly valuable to us and something we cherish deeply.
Our exchanges between our City officials is also much appreciated. Our past Mayor Gary Braun and
Cherie Kidd, both personally thank Mutsu for their warm welcome. Cherie Kidd writes, "Thank you
for your very kind hospitality to me as I visited your wonderful city in recent years. I will always
treasure the friendships I have made."
The people of Mutsu City,Japan and the people of Port Angeles, WA., USA, have shared and
developed a close friendship for over 20 years. We look forward to a long and happy relationship in
the years to come. We congratulate you for your 60 years and wish only the best for you.
