HomeMy WebLinkAbout11202019 MinutesPUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY BOARD Port Angeles Fire Department Port Angeles, Washington November 20th, 2019 CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Barnard called the regular meeting of the Public Safety Advisory Board to order at 6:03 p.m. ROLL CALL: Members Present: Alan Barnard, Evan Brown, Kathleen Graf, Pamela Lindquist, Lourene O’Brien, Kiara Schmitt, Teresa Sesma-Meyers, Shana Scott, Dr. Ed Zoble Members Absent: Thomas Mitchell Staff Present: Mike Sanders, Assistant Fire Chief; Catherine Dewey, Secretary Guest: Sergeant Miller, representing PD APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: It was moved by Lourene and seconded by Shana to approve the October meeting minutes. Motion passed unanimously. NEW BUSINESS: Applicant Recommendation: Shana made a motion that the Board recommend applicant Alan Oman to City Council for Board appointment, Lourene seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Emergency Notifications: Alan Barnard spoke to the group regarding the Reverse 911 and CODERED program that is being used County wide, Chief Smith and Sanders also gave their input on the system and how it can be used in emergency situations. Conversation ensued. It is important that you go to the County website to be sure that you’re registered in the system. Port Angeles Police Department Report: Sergeant Miller spoke to the Board about the Explorer and Reserve Program. The Explorer program is up and running through the Boys Scouts and are seeing great interest, it is offered to applicants that are between the ages of 16-21 and they meet weekly for training. The Reserve Academy is available when they turn 21 and are sponsored by the PAPD on their 21st birthday they will be sworn in. This is a great program and opportunity for youth involvement. Port Angeles Fire Department Report: Assistant Chief Sanders noted that they are working on funding to continue with the Community Paramedic program and that it is looking promising at this time. The Fire Department has applied for a grant through Peninsula Behavioral Health. Chief Sanders also announced that WSRB would be visiting the City again but that a 2021 extension has been granted. GOOD OF THE ORDER: Evan – noted that there should be a 25 MPH sign out at the skating rink with all of the foot traffic the speed really needs to be enforced. Kiara- Soccer went to State this year and Swimming went to District. ADJOURNMENT: Chairman Barnard adjourned the meeting at 7:13 p.m.
