Jim was clear that the city needs to have some kind of confirmation as to the building process and being in code and acceptable to the City of Port Angeles. We certainly understand. Of course, the awkward spot at this point is that everything is closed up and finished. Without seeming uncooperative, I want to make it clear that we have no intention to tear down as much of the sheet rock as ideally the city would prefer However at the same time we want to do what we can to bang some resolve to this matter In talking with Todd Ortloff we are going to suggest that we remove up to two, two square foot pieces of sheet rock in any two areas that you may select. Also, is there such a thing as a fiber optic camera or x -ray process you are aware of? We would be happy to consider this option as well, if it exists and is affordable 1 Do know we want to be accommodating and trust both sides can be reasonable in getting this done At the same time, Todd and I are concerned that any work beyond this would be overly invasive to our business and overall employee productivity In addition,, we have sensitive and very expensive equipment that could be put at risk. As you know, as soon as I learned a permit was needed, I was quick and responsive. Let me know if we can get this done with either of the above suggestions. TANGELES This letter is in reference to your letter to the City of April 27, 2009, following an on site meeting with Building Inspector Jim Lierly on April 21 You are correct, the situation is awkward because the work was completed without being inspected. With that said, Jim's intent in meeting with you on site was to explain why the finished work must be visually inspected in order for the building permit to be finaled. Strategic sections of drywall covering the finished work must be removed to reveal the construction technique underneath for the plumbing, framing, and electric work that was done In your letter, you asked if an alternative method of technology is available that would enable inspection without removal of the drywall. To our knowledge, there is none. Correction is also needed to bring corridors up to ADA standards That work involves more than a reveal. It is imperative that inspection of the covered work occur immediately to continue occupancy of the area. In speaking with both Jim and Electrical Inspector Trent Peppard, in order to perform the necessary inspections with as little disruption to your work environment as possible, a compromise from a full reveal has been determined to be acceptable Jim and Trent will agree on one area of drywall to be removed. It can be assumed that a random inspection of the completed work will reveal the method of construction used throughout the remodel. If the area can pass necessary inspections, no further disruption will be required. City staff are available to work with you such that your schedule is minimally disrupted, but know that the inspections must take place quickly to allow continued use of the work area.
