Expenditures are for promotion of tourism and the acquisition, con- struction, or operation of stadium /convention cen- ter facilities. Major Services This fund primarily provides for contractual pay- ments to agencies promoting Port Angeles as a tourism and destination spot. In addition, this fund services debt on the Vern Burton Memorial Com- munity Center (VBMCC) renovation. In 2001 the City Council approved Lodging Tax Committee recommendations to reserve $100,000 annually for a period of 20 years. These funds were designated for acquisition and construction of the new convention center. How- ever, due to the temporary postponement of this project by the developer, this $100,000 is rec- ommended to be used for marketing in 2005. Major Revenue Source The City imposes a 2% tax on all charges for lodging at hotels, motels, and similar establish- ments. This tax is taken as a credit against the 6.5% portion of the state sales tax. In April 1998 the City Council approved a second 2% hotel/ motel tax.
