Chase Street Port Angeles, WA 98362 FILE Subject: Johnson Residence Reroof 906 South D Street, Port Angeles November 2, 2007 At the request of Larry Johnson, we have investigated the roof framing of the Harry Johnson Residence The house is in the process of being re- roofed with Monier Lifetile roofing. The new roofing weighs 10 5 pounds per square foot when installed, according to the manufacutrer's information. With the new roofing, the roof will have a dead load of approximately 14 psf. Current snow load requirements are 25 psf. According to the owner, the house was originally constructed in 1965 [The original roof framing consists of 5/8" plywood sheathing with 2x6 rafters and 2x8 ceiling foists at 16" on center Purlins and braces support the rafters onto interior walls of the residence in the northern part of the residence The maximum rafter span in this area appears to be less than the 10'8" maximum specified in the 2006 IRC Table R802 5 1(3) for a snow load of 30psf and a dead load of 20 psf. The central living area and garage roof is supported by configuring the roof framing into site built trusses with 2x12 strong back stiffeners When computer modeled as a truss, the roof framing appears to be sufficient to support the new roofing.
